Troubleshooting guide for Branch Routers.

Updated yesterday

This guide walks you through simple troubleshooting steps for your Unifi Branch Router.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check The LED Light On The Router

  • Steady Blue Light: Device is functioning properly.

  • Any Other Light (flashing white, off, pulsing, etc.): The device may need a reboot.

2. Power Cycle The UniFi Dream Router

  • Unplug the power cable from the back of the router

  • Wait 10 seconds

  • Plug it back in and wait for the device to fully boot up, the ring light will be flashing white every two to three seconds. This process takes about 3–5 minutes to fully boot up.

  • If the ring light starts flashing quickly between white and blue, it indicates that the router’s firmware is being updated.

Do not interrupt this process—allow the update to complete fully. Interrupting could cause issues with the router's functionality. The LED ring should turn steady blue when it’s ready

3. Check Cable Connections

  • Make sure the Ethernet cable is connected:

    • From your main modem/router LAN port → to the WAN port on the UniFi Dream Router (last port from top to bottom)

  • Confirm the power cable is fully inserted and the wall outlet is working

4. Reboot The Main Modem / Router

Sometimes the issue comes from your internet source, not the UniFi router.

  • Unplug the main modem/router from power

  • Wait 10–15 seconds

  • Plug it back in and wait for it to reconnect to the internet (usually 2–3 minutes)

Once your main modem/router is back online, check the UniFi Dream Router's LED again — it should turn steady blue
