Installation Guide | Cash Drawer (Accessory)

Step-by-step guide to installing a cash drawer to your Snackpass-compatible devices, including dual registers and receipt printers.

Updated over a week ago

Important: This guide applies only to Snackpass-compatible 12V cash drawers.
Legacy 24V models and drawers shipped before November 15, 2023, are not supported and will require a hardware upgrade.

Connection Methods

You can connect your cash drawer using either:

  • Duo Register (Preferred Method)

  • Receipt Printer (Alternative Method)

Option 1: Duo Register Connection (Preferred)

1. Connect The Cash Drawer

  • Plug the RJ12 cable from the cash drawer into the RJ12 port on the bottom of the Duo register's main display.

Note:

  • Ensure the cable is securely connected.

  • Handle with care to avoid damaging the connectors.

  • The cash drawer receives power through this cable—no additional power source needed.

2. Verify Register Status

  • Ensure the Duo register is:

    • Powered on

    • Connected to the internet

    • Registered to your restaurant in the Snackpass dashboard via Devices > Settings

3. Link The Cash Drawer In Dashboard

  1. Go to the Restaurant Dashboard > Settings > Devices

  2. Select your Duo register and click Edit

  3. Scroll to Cash Drawer Settings

  4. Click + Create, name your cash drawer, and Submit

  5. Under Settings, enable Allow Cash Payments

4. Connect To Cash Drawer

  • Plug the other end of the RJ12 cable into the cash drawer

No additional power cable is needed—drawer is powered through RJ12.

5. Test The Setup

  • Run a test order and select Cash Payment

  • The drawer should open automatically

If it doesn’t:

  • Double-check all cable connections

  • Contact Snackpass Support for help

Option 2: Receipt Printer Connection (Alternative)

1. Connect The RJ12 Cable

  • Remove the back cover from your Snackpass receipt printer (Model M30II or M30III)

  • Plug in the RJ12 cable

  • Reattach the printer’s back cover

Note:
Use the correct 6-pin RJ12 cable (looks similar to Ethernet but slightly smaller)

2. Connect To Cash Drawer

  • Plug the other end of the RJ12 cable into the cash drawer

No additional power cable is needed—drawer is powered through RJ12.

3. Verify Printer Setup

  • Ensure the printer is:

    • Powered on

    • Connected to the internet

    • Registered in the restaurant dashboard

4. Link The Drawer Via Dashboard

  1. Go to the Restaurant Dashboard > Settings > Devices

  2. Select the receipt printer, click Edit

  3. Scroll to Cash Drawer Settings, click + Create, name the drawer, and Submit

  4. Also ensure Allow Cash Payments is enabled for the register or kiosk

5. Test The Setup

  • Run a test order, select Cash Payment

  • The drawer should open automatically

If not, check both ends of the RJ12 connection. Contact support if the issue continues.

Final Step: Cable Management

  • Use cable ties or clips to bundle cables neatly

  • Route cables out of sight and away from foot traffic or snagging
