If the cash drawer is connected to a printer, please ensure that the printer has paper in it. Paper printing is what triggers the drawer to open if connected to a printer.

Check the Lock: Make sure the cash drawer hasn't been manually locked using the key. If it is locked, use the key to unlock it before testing again.
