A stable internet connection and printer Ethernet setup are required for the Snackpass POS to work properly. Complete this before installing hardware.

For internet setup questions, contact your ISP (e.g., Verizon, Comcast) to ensure optimal performance.

Network requirements overview

Please confirm that you meet the criteria below to proceed with an approved configuration for onboarding your store:

A. Internet Speed Requirements

Before proceeding, confirm your internet speed meets the minimum requirement:

  • Download: 80 Mbps or higher

  • Upload: 10 Mbps or higher

You can test your speed at Speedtest.net, WiFiMan.com, or through your ISP’s speed test tool.

B. Internet Modem

  • The modem should be easy to get to (not locked in a closet or behind heavy equipment).

  • It should have at least 2 open cable ports (we’ll need one just for the Snackpass router).

C. Network Credentials Access

  • The point of contact must be able to provide ISP modem login credentials (if needed for setup or troubleshooting)

D. Wi-Fi Coverage for Dine-In Locations

  • It is recommended that each dining area has a dedicated access point to ensure robust Wi-Fi coverage for tableside service and handheld devices.

  • If an access point is not available, a test for proper connectivity at each table should be performed. This can be done using a 3rd party app like the WiFiMan app on Google Play & App Store. Or you can navigate to https://wifiman.com for an online speed test.

E. Network Wiring (Ethernet Cables)

Use Cat5e or better Ethernet cables (your installer will know what this means).

Cables should already be run to:

  • Receipt & Label printer stations

  • Kitchen Display Systems

  • Server stations.

  • Register Stations

  • Kiosk Stations

  • Wi-Fi access points (if applicable)

Note: All cables should lead back to where your modem and Snackpass router will be set up.

Snackpass Device Network Configuration Requirements

Effective for all new store onboardings starting August 2024:

To ensure optimal performance and stability across all devices, the following configuration standards will be enforced:

  • All Snackpass printers and registers must be connected via Ethernet to the Snackpass-provided router.

  • Ethernet is strongly recommended for kiosks, kitchen display screens (KDS), and customer-facing display screens to ensure reliability.

  • All Snackpass devices—whether connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi—must connect to the dedicated private Snackpass network established by the Snackpass router.

Tips for Network Setup

A stable network is key for your Snackpass system to run smoothly.

  1. Pick a Reliable Internet Provider

    • Choose an ISP with consistent speeds and minimal outages in your area.

  2. Place Your Router Wisely

    • Keep it upright, in an open space, and as close to your Snackpass devices as possible.

    • Avoid metal objects, thick walls, or closed cabinets that can weaken signals.

  3. Coordinate with Your ISP Installer

    • Show them where your Snackpass hardware will go.

    • Ensure strong signal or Ethernet access at those spots.

  4. Be Ready on Installation Day

    • Have your Wi-Fi name and password handy.

    • Know where your router is located for quick access.

  5. Have a Backup Option

    • If your wired connection is unreliable, consider a SIM-enabled 5G router with a carrier that has strong coverage in your area.
